Turbulent second half derails Rattlers

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — The festive atmosphere of Senior Day prior to tip-off was in stark contrast to the game that was played moments later inside Bill Greehey Arena Saturday afternoon as St. Mary's fell to Texas-Permian Basin 73-59.

The Rattlers trailed by one after the first half of play despite shooting under 33 percent from the field. A.J. McGlown provided a spark for the Rattlers midway through the first half, reeling off five straight points on back-to-back possessions, highlighted by a double-pump slam-dunk over the Falcons' defense.

St. Mary's shooting woes continued in the second half as the team shot less than 20 percent from the field, including a dismal 1-for-19 from behind the arc.

On their Senior Day, Kriston Minor tallied eight points, grabbed six rebounds and two steals as Bryce Smith put in six points, four rebounds and four assists.

McGlown, along with Yanni Wetzell and Isaiah Parros each finished with nine points apiece. Parros would also collect a team-high seven rebounds while Wetzell and McGlown would combine for six boards.

On Feb. 18, the Rattlers will be back in action at Bill Greehey Arena as they take on Texas A&M International at 7:30 p.m.
