Wetzell, Williams drive Rattlers to New Year’s Eve victory

SAN ANTONIO — As everyone gets set to welcome the new year, the St. Mary's Rattlers ended 2016 with a 70-55 victory against Lubbock Christian on Saturday afternoon at Bill Greehey Arena.
 
The Rattlers (3-9, 1-2) were in control throughout as they held the Chaps to 5-of-25 shooting in the first half and 30 percent for the entire game. In contrast, St. Mary's shot 49 percent from the field as it also drained 7-of-14 three pointers.
 
Yanni Wetzell and Freddie Williams left their mark with efficient play. Wetzell dropped a game-high 17 points and eight rebounds with Williams adding 14 points and six boards in 35 minutes of play.
 
Will Ferguson posted nine points and four rebounds with Skyler Brooks contributing eight points and two rebounds off the bench.
 
Men's hoops return to action on Jan. 2 when they end a four-game homestand against Dallas Baptist.
