Defense paves way for @StMUWBB victory over East Central

SAN ANTONIO — For the second-straight game, the St. Mary's Rattlers held the opposition to under 40-points with a 54-37 victory over East Central on Day 1 of the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic.
 
After trailing by one at halftime, the Rattlers shifted gears, outscoring the Tigers 20-9 in the third frame to gain control of the game. StMU would hold the Tigers to under 30 percent shooting from the field throughout the contest and under double-digits in scoring in each of the final three quarters.
 
Led by Kiara Etheridge's 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals, St. Mary's picked up its fourth straight victory of the season, improving to 6-1.
 
Fellow senior LaBraile Fields added 11 points while spearheading the defensive effort with a game-high six steals.
 
Tia Mason provided a lift off the bench with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting as Sierra Dixon posted six points off a pair of three-pointers.
 
St. Mary's host Minnesota-Crookston in the finale of the Thanksgiving Classic tomorrow at 4 p.m., inside Bill Greehey Arena.
