SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Men's Basketball got back to what it's known for Tuesday evening: defending and rebounding.

And in the process, the Rattlers picked up their first victory of the season in their home debut.

St. Mary's rode their tried and true formula for an 83-61 victory over Eastern New Mexico before more than 250 fans at Bill Greehey Arena, improving to 1-2 on the season.

Freddie Williams and Yanni Wetzell each had double-doubles, with Williams scoring 17 to go along with 13 rebounds and Wetzell adding 16 points and 10 boards. Skyler Brooks had 11 points, while Robbie Benavides scored nine and had six assists off the bench.

Most importantly, the Rattlers dominated the glass, winning the rebounding battle 48-21. St. Mary's also limited ENMU (1-2) to 41.8 percent shooting from the floor, including 38.5 percent in a first half that saw the Snakes take a 37-22 lead into the break.

St. Mary's seemingly couldn't miss from the floor at times, shooting nearly 51 percent from the floor (29 of 57), 40 percent from 3-point range (6 of 15) and 82.6 percent from the free-throw line (19 of 23).

St. Mary's will return to action Friday, when it travels to Wichita Falls, Texas for the Midwestern State Classic. The Rattlers open up play against Cameron at 5:30 p.m. at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
