RSU scores last-minute dagger to stun Rattlers

By Chad Peters | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

CLAREMORE, Oklahoma — Rogers State's game-winning goal with 82 seconds remaining stunned St. Mary's Men's Soccer, 2-1, on Saturday evening.

The Rattlers (5-8-2, 4-7-1) took a 1-0 lead early in the contest when Keegan Woolley scored on a penalty kick in the 20th minute.

But the Hillcats (8-5-3, 5-5-2) scored the equalizer nearly 10 minutes later on Jake Simpson's seventh goal of the season.

The second half saw little action — just seen combined shots and zero goals — until the waning minutes. Then, Niall Smith took a Jordan Watson assist and netted his second goal of the season to win the game.

Looking to get back into the playoff picture, St. Mary's will take on rival St. Edward's in a "Battle of the Saints" matchup on Thursday in Austin, Texas.
