Five-goal outburst leads Rattlers to victory over Chaps

SAN ANTONIO — Saturday afternoon's match for the Rattlers featured an opponent familiar to head coach Matt Barnes.
 
Barnes and the Rattlers defeated the Lubbock Christian Chaperals, 5-1 at Sigma Beta Chi Field. The former coach of the Chaps, Barnes, led the Rattlers to victory with the team's highest scoring performance of the season.
 
In the 29th minute of the match, the Rattlers struck with a laser by John-Michael Villarreal who netted his second goal in two matches off a long assist from keeper Jack Moore.
 
After the Chaps found the equalizer six minutes later, Keegan Wooley gave StMU the lead before the half in the 43rd minute.
 
The second half was all Rattlers as they added three goals from Pato Botello Faz, Dan Johns and Kiernan Akers. With their respective goals, Botello and Johns eached recorded their fourth of the season.
 
Moore made a match-high five saves in addition to his first half assist as St. Mary's improves to 5-6-2 overall and 4-5-1 in conference play.
 
Next for the Rattlers will be three matches on the road beginning with Newman on Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
