Offensive woes plagues Rattlers at TAMIU

By Kaeleen Zeleznak | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

LAREDO, Texas—The Lady Rattlers were unable to overcome an offensive plague late in the first half as they suffer their second straight loss, falling to the Texas A&M-International DustDevils 73-53 Thursday evening.

For the second straight game, the Rattlers were held to under 60 points, which is under their season average of 70.5 ppg.

Two Rattlers scored in double-digits with Kiara Etheridge scoring a game-high 24 points and LaBraile Fields chipping in twelve points. Etheridge also led the Rattlers on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds.

After opening the first quarter neck and neck with the DustDevils, the Rattlers trailed going into the second quarter 16-15. The second quarter saw the Rattlers' offensive spark dim, as the DustDevils went on a 24-10 run, sending the Rattlers to the break trailing 40-25.

St. Mary's was held to 33 percent shooting from the field, which was in stark contrast to the DustDevils 46 percent shooting during the first two periods.

Returning from the break, the Rattlers struggled to make a run as their shooting woes continued, shooting just 10 of 30 from the field during the second half. The DustDevils continued to push their lead throughout the entirety of the second half, never relinquishing their lead, keeping the Rattlers at least at a 12-point deficit.

The Rattlers will take a short break before looking to bounce back against Oklahoma Christian on Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Bill Greehey Arena.
