Rattlers’ attack stalls late against Eagles

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

OKLAHOMA CITY — Beginning the New Year on the road against Oklahoma Christian, St. Mary's was unable to collect a victory as its offense fell flat late in the game, losing 70-63 at the Eagle's Nest Saturday afternoon.

Following a Kriston Minor three-pointer that trimmed the Eagles' lead to two with 5:43 remaining, the Rattlers were derailed by seven unanswered points by Oklahoma Christian that put the game out of reach.

Minor (Sr., Huntsville, Texas) had a solid all-around game, tallying 10 points along with five rebounds and five assists while Isaiah Parros (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) led the Rattlers in scoring with 19 points, adding nine rebounds and four assists, falling one board shy of a double-double.

Leading by as many as seven, the Rattlers were out in front throughout the majority of the first half, eventually taking a 36-34 lead to the locker room. Bryce Smith (Sr., Corpus Christi, Texas) was a catalyst off the bench, scoring five of his 11 points in the opening half in addition to two offensive rebounds and two assists.

The loss drops the Rattlers to 5-7, (1-3) as they get set for a two-game homestand beginning Jan. 7. It will feature a much-anticipated rematch of last year's Heartland Conference Tournament Semifinal against UA Fort Smith.
