Minor, Wetzell lead Rattlers in loss to UAFS

SAN ANTONIO — Nearly 10 months has passed since the St. Mary's Rattlers and UA Fort Smith Lions last met in a classic confrontation that saw the Rattlers coming from behind to win in stellar fashion enroute to the Heartland Conference Championship. In the rematch Thursday night, it was the Lions redeeming themselves with a 86-70 win at Bill Greehey Arena.
 
Trailing by 10 at halftime, the Rattlers battled back, tying the game at 56-56 with less than 13 minutes left following a layup from Stefan Wright (Jr., Adelaide, Australia) whom finished shooting 3-of-4 from the field for seven points.
 
UAFS would then go on to outscore the Rattlers 30-14 the final 12 minutes of the contest despite strong efforts from Kriston Minor and Yanni Wetzell.
 
Minor (Sr., Huntsville, Texas) poured in a game-high 22 points, knocking down three triples while also grabbing two rebounds. Wetzell (Fr., Auckland, New Zealand) had a monster game, collecting a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
 
The starting backcourt of Bryce Smith (Sr., Corpus Christi, Texas) and Isaiah Parros (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) combined for 19 points in the loss.
 
Saturday, the Rattlers will look to bounce back as they take on Rogers State at home with tipoff slated for 3 p.m.
