Rattlers earn 1st shutout of season against Ouachita Baptist, 2-0

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Men's Soccer's stars came out shining under the bright lights Friday night.
 
The Rattlers defeated Ouachita Baptist 2-0 in a crisp showing at Sigma Beta Chi Field, dominating possession and the attack for their first shutout victory of the season.
 
St. Mary's outshot the Tigers 18-13, with Ouachita Baptist recording just two shots on goal. The Rattlers had seven shots on goal.
 
St. Mary's improved to 2-3-0 on the season, including 2-1 at home. Ouachita Baptist dropped to 1-4.
 
The defenseman Jack Verth got the scoring going in the sixth minute of the first half, booming a rocket shot from 30 yards out on a free kick for his first goal of the season.
 
Aaron Dunks made it 2-0 just minutes later, finding the upper-left corner from outside the box in the 10th minute for his second goal of the season. Ignacio Fernandez assisted the goal.
 
Mitchell Kilmer returned to the net for the Rattlers, recording two saves in the shutout victory. Ouachita Baptist had few good looks, but two that were clean ended up hitting the crossbar. Kilmer improved to 1-2 on the season.
 
The Rattlers will return to the pitch Sunday, when they face Texas A&M International at 7 p.m. at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
