Luna's goal not enough as Skyhawks drop Rattlers

DURANGO, Colo. — In the final match of their brief road trip to Colorado, the St. Mary's Rattlers (1-3-0) were unable to complete their comeback effort against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks (2-2-0), dropping the contest 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Dirks Field.

For the second straight match, the Rattlers were tied 0-0 midway through. This would make it the 4th straight half without a goal for a Rattler offense that had been struggling.

The 216-minute scoreless drought for StMU ended when Victor Luna (Sr., Sealy, Texas) was able to find the back of the net courtesy of an assist from Luis Sanchez (Fr., Houston, Texas) tying the match, 1-1 with just under 15 minutes left to play.

Moments later, the Skyhawks capitalized on a corner kick ushering the momentum, and the victory, away from the Rattlers.

At the end of a frantic second half, which saw 22 shots and 3 yellow cards between the two teams, Fort Lewis handed the St. Mary's their third straight defeat.

Mitchell Kilmer (R-So., Frisco, Texas), recorded a match high 7 saves in a losing effort.

The Rattlers will return to the friendly confines of Sigma Beta Chi Field as they look to get back on track against Ouachita Baptist on Friday at 8 p.m.
