Snakes blank Greyhounds 2-0

LAREDO, Texas — St. Mary's Women's Soccer (1-1-0) notched its first victory of the season by defeating the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds (0-3-1), 2-0 on Friday.
 
Midway through the first half, a goal from 18 yards out by Sam Lara (Sr., San Antonio) opened the scoring, giving the Rattlers a lead they would never surrender.
 
Less than four minutes later, a cross from Brianna Shafer (R-Jr., Castroville, Texas) set up a header for Roxy Cruz Santory (So., San Antonio), giving the Rattlers the two-goal edge.
 
Alyssa Taramona (Sr., Forney, Texas) recorded her first clean sheet of the year, bringing her career total to 10.4 shutouts, which is third all-time in program history. She improved to 1-1 on the season.
 
The Rattlers will be back in action Sunday in Laredo as they face UTPB at 11 a.m.
