Women's Tennis gets 5th shutout in 6 matches in 9-0 win over Newman

DALLAS — Dominance continued for St. Mary's Women's Tennis as they cruised to yet another 9-0 victory over Heartland Conference rival Newman on Friday.

The win marked the 15th straight win for No. 13 St. Mary's and of even more astonishing note, in their last 11 overall matches, the Rattlers have only combined to lose 10 matches in total.

It was yet another doubles sweep for the women as they got off to one of their notorious 3-0 starts.

Both ranked teams for the Rattlers, No. 7 Mariana Rong and Cristina Lopez and the No. 20-ranked Jamie Lee Denton and Kaylin Kruseman, both won 8-1. The first victory came over Carissa Villaflor and Lisa Pleskan and the latter came against Tamar Tskhakaia and Kate Bugayenko at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

Tyra Timm and Felicity Delgado rounded out the pair's portion of the day with an 8-3 victory over Hillary Hicks and Courtney Dold to give StMU the lopsided advantage.
The thrashing continued into doubles, as the Snakes took all six matches and five in straight sets.

No. 33 Rong and No. 39 Lopez took their matches 6-3, 6-4 over Bugayenko at No. 1 and 6-1, 6-2 over Pleskan, respectively.

Another doubles duo also had success on the singles side of things as Timm won her match against Hicks at No. 4, 6-1, 7-6, and her partner Delgado defeated Courtney Dold at No. 5, 6-2, 6-0.

Joanie Bryant was inserted into the lineup and the decision paid off as she was victorious over Ariana Raga 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6.

Denton had a hard-fought battle with Tskhakaia 6-4, 3-6, (10-7) to close out the match at No. 3 for the Snakes.

Their record improved to 16-1 on the year and they remain undefeated in conference play. They will take on their last conference opponent in UA Fort Smith on Saturday in Dallas.
