By Robin Johnson | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — Taylor Vidrine was very much on fire Sunday.

The senior continued her home-run-blasting week, recording two, two-RBI homers against Newman in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader to lead No. 9 St. Mary's Softball to a 7-0 victory only follow with another solid outing in the nightcap in the Rattlers' 7-0 Game 2 victory.

The Rattlers' doubleheader sweep over Newman improved their record to 22-7 overall and 5-2 in Heartland Conference play to put them on a five-game winning streak.

Vidrine's (Sr., San Antonio) two homers against the Jets in Game 1 put her count to four homers on the week as she also smacked two home runs against Texas A&M-Kingsville earlier in the week to now lead the Rattlers in bombs with seven.

Vidrine went 2 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs scored in Game 1 in the Rattlers' lone multiple-hit day in the seven-hit victory and recorded a stat line of going 2 for 3 with three runs scored and three stolen bases in Game 2.

Vianna Gutierrez Touchstone (Sr., San Antonio)  was lights out against the Jets in Game 1 (6-22, 2-9 in conference), tossing a complete-game shutout to improve to 12-3 on the season. Gutierrez Touchstone's one-hitter accompanied eight strikeouts to record her second straight one-hitter.

Hope Russell (Fr., Vidor, Texas) followed with a quality start in Game 2, scattering three Jet hits with two strikeouts in five shutout innings to improve to 10-4 on the season.
Kristi Rangel (Fr., Kingsville, Texas) took over the mound to close out the game and held up the shutout, tossing two innings with three strikeouts.

Leading the Rattlers at the plate in Game 2 was Sydney Wellmann (Jr., Brenham, Texas) as she went 3 for 4 with a team-high three RBIs followed by Danielle Nash (Sr., San Antonio) went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI in the 10-hit victory.

The Snakes complete the three-game series with the Jets with a single game at 1 p.m. Monday inside The Park at St. Mary's.
