No. 16 Rattlers blank Metro State for 9th straight

PUEBLO, Colo. — Nine was the magic number for St. Mary's Women's Tennis as they cruised to their ninth consecutive victory with a 9-0 over Metro State on Friday morning.

Despite the high altitude, the Rattlers were able to successfully sweep the match against the Roadrunners of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

St. Mary's took an early advantage before the first serve was even hit due to a MSU default to take a 1-0 lead. The No. 1 team of Jamie Lee Denton (Jr., San Angelo, Texas) and Kaylin Kruseman (Fr., Houston, Texas) and the No. 2 team of Felicity Delgado (Sr., Universal City, Texas) and Kerry Wiegand (Jr., San Antonio) completed the doubles sweep, winning 8-3 over Wright and Vujosevic and 8-2 over Bell and Miller, respectively.

The most impressive singles victories on the day came from Cristina Lopez (Jr., San Antonio) and Joanie Bryant (Jr., San Antonio), with both winning 6-0, 6-0. Lopez won at No. 2 over Vujosevic and Bryant over Miller at No. 5.

The Snakes were handed another pass as the No. 6 singles match was also defaulted by Metro State.

Reigning Heartland Conference Player of the Week Mariana Rong (Sr., Jinan, China) was able to cruise to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Love at No. 1. Denton at No. 3 won by the same score line, outlasting Chobanian.

Tyra Timm (Fr., Johannesburg) was inserted for singles play at No. 4 and won convincingly over Bell, 6-1, 6-1.

The women are scheduled to play their second match on their Colorado road trip Saturay at 11 a.m. against Colorado Mesa. They will take a 10-1 record into the affair, with a win seeing them to 10 straight.
