No. 16 Women's Tennis cruises to 8-1 victory over Trinity

SAN ANTONIO — The winning run has continued for the St. Mary's women's tennis team as it cruised to an 8-1 victory over San Antonio rival Trinity.

The win over the NCAA Division III opponent marked the fourth straight for the Snakes, who have proven to live up to their No. 16 national ranking.

As per usual, St. Mary's came out strong as it swept the doubles matches.

The No. 1 team of Mariana Rong (Sr., Jinan, China) and Cristina Lopez (Jr., San Antonio) kicked off proceedings with a solid 8-3 win over Southwick and Lutz. 

Jamie Lee Denton (Jr., San Antonio) and Kaylin Kruseman (Fr., Houston, Texas) matched their counterparts in the No. 2 match as they were victorious by the same score over Duncan and Porter. Tyra Timm (Fr., Johannesburg) and Kerry Wiegand (Jr., San Antonio) rounded out doubles with an 8-4 victory over White and Roe.

With the momentum of doubles, the Rattlers took five of the remaining six matches in singles action to take their record to 5-1 this year.

No. 1 Rong and No. 2 Kruseman retained their doubles form and both finished their days with 6-1, 6-1 over Lutz and Southwick, respectively.

Lopez and Denton had equally impressive performances as the No. 3 Lopez won 6-3, 6-1 over Porter and the latter Denton won at No. 4 6-2, 6-3 over Roe.

Tyra Timm had a battle on her hand as she saw out a tough three-set battle with TU's White 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 at No. 5.

The Tigers' lone victory of the day came from Duncan at No. 6 as Wiegand lost another three-set affair after taking the first set, 3-6, 6-4, 10-3.
