By Ruben Domingeuz | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO – Kicking off the biggest weekend of their season thus far, St. Mary's Women's Tennis took a commanding decision over Texas-Permian Basin, 9-0, Friday at Rohrbach Stadium in its first Heartland Conference match of the season.

St. Mary's started of its day in dominant fashion only dropping five total games on the way to capturing all three doubles points.

The No.1 team of Mariana Rong (Sr., Jinan, China) and Cristina Lopez (Jr., San Antonio) served things up first, winning 8-0 over UTPB's Roslanova and Baltazar.

Jamie Lee Denton (Jr., San Angelo, Texas) and Kaylin Kruseman (Fr., Houston)
were next in line as they defeated Maytubby and Villalobos 8-3 on the No. 2 court.

The senior-freshman tandem of Felicity Delgado (Sr., Universal City, Texas) and Tyra Timm (Fr., Johannesburg) clinched the doubles sweep as they beat the No. 3 team of Greene and Holdampt, 8-2.

St. Mary's had no intentions of slowing down heading into singles action and completed the match without any signs of that.

Rong stayed undefeated on the year as she cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Greene in No. 1 singles. Lopez duplicated the efforts of her doubles partner and in the No. 2 match as she defeated Roslanova 6-4, 6-0 on the No. 2 court.

Like their teammates at the head of the lineup, Kruseman won at No. 4, 6-0, 6-3, over Villalobos before seeing Kerry Wiegand (Jr., San Antonio) not drop a game on her way to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Chavez at No. 6 singles.

In the closest match of the day, Timm won a tiebreaker in the first set before seeing off UTPB's Maytubby 7-6 (1), 7-5 at No. 3 singles.

It was little too late for the Falcons (2-2) as Denton closed out their Heartland Conference opponent with a decisive 6-2, 6-2 win over Holdampf at No. 5 to complete the sweep.

No. 16 St. Mary's are now 3-1 on the season and will face a tough test on Saturday as they take on regional opponent Midwestern State at Rohrbach Stadium at 9 a.m.
