Etheridge, Brady push StMU in must-win over TAMIU

LAREDO, Texas — St. Mary's Women's Basketball notched a must-win game over the Dustdevils of A&M-International, 67-59, Thursday evening in Laredo, Texas that saw dominant performances from Kiara Etheridge and Jade Brady.
 
Going into the matchup, the teams had matching records of 7-8 in Heartland Conference standings.
 
This win gives the Rattlers an 8-8 record in Heartland Conference play and 14-10 in overall play. Among all league members, the squad stands in the six slot while in the run for the conference tournament berth, the team stands in fourth.
 
A big night from Etheridge (So., San Antonio) helped to surge the squad past the Dustdevils as she had 18 points and seven boards.
 
Two other Rattlers scored in double-digits including Brady (Fr., Cibolo, Texas) who scored a career-high 14 points and Kyra Littlejohn (Sr., Southfield, Mich.) who chipped in ten points.
 
The Rattlers outrebounded the Dustdevils 36-30 behind the efforts of Morgan Pullins (Sr., Franklin, Mich.) who pulled down nine rebounds. Etheridge and Brady recorded seven and six boards each, respectively, which was another career-high for Brady.
 
The first half stayed tight throughout with the lead changing three times and the score being tied nine times.
 
The Rattlers went to the break trailing the Dustdevils (7-9, 11-13 in conference) narrowly with a score of 31-29.
 
The early part of the second half mirrored the first, seeing a tightly contested match until halfway through the second frame when the Rattlers took control, going on a 12-3 run to give them a 12-point advantage.
 
The Rattlers will be back in action as they return home for their final two regular-season games. They face Lubbock Christian Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Bill Greehey Arena.
