DURANT, Okla. — The No. 16 St. Mary's softball team opened the season perfectly in Arizona last week. Now, the Rattlers have taken their act to Oklahoma, where they're perfect start continues.

St. Mary's swept its opening-day action at the Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Invitational, run-ruling Texas A&M-Commerce 13-3 in five innings and overpowering Southwestern Oklahoma State 7-2.

St. Mary's, which went 6-0 at last week's NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Ariz., is now 8-0 to start the 2015 season.

Ace Vianna Gutierrez Touchtone went 4 for 4 at the plate in the opener, upping her season's batting average to a whopping .769. She also improved to 4-0 in the circle after going the distance with seven strikeouts.

After seeing her Rattlers go up 5-0 in the first inning, Sydney Wellmann tacked on a few more runs on a three-run blast that put the Rattlers up 9-2. Later, leading 9-3, St. Mary's put the game away in the top of the fifth, where it drove in four more runs to win by the run-rule.

The Rattlers enjoyed a similarly high-powered start against Southwestern Oklahoma State. StMU jumped to a 2-0 lead on Nicole Sardelich's two-RBI double in the second inning, and tacked on another thanks to Daniele Nash's RBI single in the third.

St. Mary's effectively put the game away in the fifth, as Nash launched a two-run home run to center field to make it 5-0. Jourdan Alvarez later stole home that inning, and Haley Richter homered in the sixth to put the Rattlers up 7-0.

Sardelich finished the game 1 for 3 with two RBIs and two walks, while Richter and Nash each went 2 for 4. Hope Russell picked up the victory in the circle to improve to 4-0 on the season.

StMU returns to action at 10 a.m. Saturday, when it takes on tournament host Southeastern Oklahoma State at the Durant Multi-Sport Complex.
