Rattlers comeback falls short against Chaps

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's could not overcome its early shooting troubles against Lubbock Christian Saturday afternoon, losing the final home game of 2015, 70-62.

After starting 1-of-13 from the field, the Rattlers found themselves in contention with less than 10 minutes in the game as senior Bryce Smith (Corpus Christi, Texas) led the charge spearheading an 8-0 run to tie the contest, 46-46. Smith scored 12 points, grabbed four boards and snagged two steals in 20 minutes of action.

That would be as close as the Rattlers would get as Lubbock Christian finished strong, outscoring the Rattlers 24-16 in the final seven minutes.

Isaiah Parros (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) led the Rattlers, logging his second highest scoring total this season, with 15 points as Yanni Wetzell (Fr. Auckland, New Zealand) finished two rebounds shy of a double-double with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Next for the Rattlers is a New Years Eve game against Newman on the road as they look to finish 2015 with a victory.
