SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Women's Basketball began Heartland Conference play Thursday night, defeating the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies 90-65 behind strong performances from LaBraile Fields and Arysia Porter.

The Rattlers returned home with a strong start, jumping out to a 25-16 lead through the first quarter. Fields (Jr., Augusta, Georgia) set the tone for the Snakes with 14 first half points, knocking in two of her three attempts from behind the arc.

Crisp ball movement combined with tenacious defense helped propell the Rattlers as they shot over 46 percent from the field, while holding OPSU to below 31 percent shooting. By the end of the third, the Rattlers put the Aggies away, outscoring the visitors 33-9 in the period.

The usual focal points of the Rattler attack, Dezirae Elias (Sr., Chandler, Ariz.) and Kiara Etheridge (Jr., San Antonio) finished with their customary numbers. Elias tacked on 14 points along with four assists while Etheridge added another double-double to her resume, 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Mariah Lee (Sr., Houston, Texas) was one rebound shy of her own double-double off the bench as she ended the night with 10 points and nine boards.

Saturday, the Rattlers will play host to the Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian University in their final home game of the calendar year with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
