Frigid third quarter stalls Rattlers in San Angelo

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANGELO, Texas — St. Mary's returned to the court Sunday following an eight day layoff, falling to Angelo State 86-59, which ended a six-game winning streak that began on Nov. 14.

The Rattlers got out to a slow start, trailing by as much as eight in the first quarter. StMU managed to fight back and tie the contest at 34 at the half. That would be as close as the Rattlers would get as the Belles outscored them 30-7 in the third quarter.

Held to 21 percent shooting from the field in the second half, the Rattlers could not find an answer to halt the red hot Belles who shot a scorching 60 percent from the field over the course of the final two periods, including 6-of-8 from behind the arc.

Freshman Arysia Porter (San Antonio) led the Snakes with 13 points to go along with four steals and three rebounds while Kiara Etheridge (Jr., San Antonio) collected another double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her 5th in six games.

Dezirae Elias (Sr., Chandler, Ariz.) logged 11 points and 5 assists in the loss as LaBraile Fields (Jr., Augusta, Georgia) contributed seven points and four steals.

On Dec. 17, the Rattlers will begin conference play at home against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
