SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Volleyball ripped off victories in three straight sets behind a charged home crowd to defeat cross-town Our Lady of the Lake 3-1 on Wednesday night.

Behind career nights from freshmen Channing Hankins and Maddy Walsh, St. Mary's (7-18) bounced back from an opening-set, 19-25 defeat to win 26-24, 25-18, 25-19 at Bill Greehey Arena.

Hankins had a match-high and career-high 17 kills to go along with an impressive .333 hitting percentage, while Maddi King recorded 13 kills and a .407 average. Megan Isbell had seven block assists and nine kills while hitting .438. As a team, St. Mary's hit .239.

Taking control of the Rattlers' setting duties in a 5-1 look, Walsh recorded a career-high 41 assists. Tori Estrada paced the Rattlers with 23 digs.

St. Mary's got better and better as the match progressed, taking control of the match down the stretch, including a 20-10 lead in the third set over OLLU (20-4).

St. Mary's started the match in promising fashion, only to see OLLU battle back from an 11-3 deficit in the first set. The Saints rallied to tie the score at 12-12 and took their first lead on an Alysha Blanco kill that put them up 18-17. OLLU closed the set on a 7-2 run en route to its only victory of the match.

The second set was a competitive one, seeing 11 ties in a game the Rattlers eventually prevailed 26-14. But it wasn't easy for St. Mary's after jumping out to a 10-5 lead, as OLLU clawed back to even the score at 13-13. It was a seesaw affair from there, with the teams exchanging points all the way to 21-21. OLLU seemed to have broken through on a Kendall Groff kill that put the Saints up 24-22, but the Rattlers put forth a feverish rally to close the match, notching four straight points to win 26-24. King had the decisive point for StMU.

St. Mary's will be back in action Saturday, traveling to Laredo, Texas for a Heartland Conference matchup against Texas A&M International. First serve is set for noon.
