Rattlers end TAMUK win streak

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The St. Mary's Rattlers were impressive on the road in their 75-56 victory over the previously undefeated Texas A&M-Kingsville Javalinas Saturday afternoon at Hampton Inn Court.
 
Led by the duo of Kiara Etheridge (Jr., San Antonio) and Dezirae Elias (Sr., Chandler, Ariz.), the Rattlers (2-1) controlled the tempo of the contest, creating 24 points off of turnovers while scoring 14 second chance points and leading by as many as 22 in the third period. The Snakes opened the game wide open after outscoring their Javalinas (3-1) 22-12 in the second quarter.
 
Etheridge filled the scoresheet with 21 points and 14 rebounds for her second double-double of the young season as Elias finished with 20 points, 3 rebounds, two assists and two steals.
 
Kealani Marquez (So., San Antonio) added 10 points and four rebounds off the bench for the Rattlers who shot over 41 percent from the field.
 
LaBraile Fields (Jr., Augusta, Georgia) provided the Rattlers with a team-high four steals to go along with six points.
 
Next, a matchup with Lewis-Clark State inside Bill Greehey Arena as the Rattlers play their first home game of the season on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
