By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — The Rattlers saw their first action of the season Friday night, dropping a close contest to the Texas Woman's Pioneers, 77-72, in the opening game of the Midwestern State Classic.

St. Mary's led throughout the entire first half, leading by as much as nine. Unfortunately for the Rattlers, the second half was a different story as Texas Woman's outscored the Rattlers 27-16 in the third quarter to gain an advantage they would not relinquish.

Kiara Etheridge (Jr., San Antonio) had an impressive night, notching a double-double, with a game high 27 points and 12 rebounds on 10 of 23 shooting from the field. Senior Dezirae Elias (Chandler, Ariz.) contributed with an all-around performance 17 points, five rebounds and four assists in a losing effort.

In her first career game, Arysia Porter (Fr., San Antonio) put up respectable numbers as she scored 13 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists in 36 minutes of play.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Rattlers as they look to bounce back in the final game of the Midwestern State Classic against the host Mustangs, Saturday at 7 p.m.
