Men's Soccer held scoreless by SEU in regular-season finale

AUSTIN, Texas — St. Mary's Men's Soccer will head into next week's Heartland Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed following a 3-0 defeat to regular-season champion St. Edward's on Sunday.
 
The match, originally scheduled for Saturday but postponed due to weather, saw the No. 14-ranked Hilltoppers ice their victory with two second-half goals after entering the break leading 1-0.
 
St. Edward's (13-2, 8-0) secured the tournament's top seed, followed by No. 2 Newman and No. 3 Texas A&M International.
 
St. Mary's finishes the regular season with an 8-8 record and a 4-4 record in league play.
 
On Sunday, the Rattlers managed six shots, including three on goal, but couldn't sneak anything past goalkeepers Phillip Ellis and Kevin Leib. St. Edward's had 15 shots, including seven on goal. Rattler keeper Jack Moore had four saves in the game.
 
St. Edward's goals came in the 30th, 55th and 67th minutes.
 
The Heartland Conference Tournament will be held in Austin, Texas starting with Thursday's semifinals round. The championship game will be held Saturday. Check back to RattlerAthletics.com for the full tournament schedule once it is released.
