AUSTIN, Texas — An impressive run to the postseason has come to an end for the St. Mary's Rattlers following their 5-1 defeat at the hands of the No. 1 team in the Heartland Conference, St. Edward's Thursday afternoon.

St. Mary's played tough through the quarter of the match, keeping the match scoreless through a good portion of the first half. That was until St. Edward's gained firm control of the match following a red card was assessed to the Rattlers in the 41st minute.

A goal from Juan Sanchez (Jr., San Angelo, Texas), off an assist from Gonzalo Orozco (So., Houston, Texas) in the 51st minute narrowed the deficit but it was not meant to be as the Rattlers were eliminated in the first round of the tournament for the second year in a row.

Seniors Victor Luna (Sealy, Texas) and Aaron Dunks (Manchester, England) finished their final season for the Rattlers as the team leaders in goals with Luna netting six goals and defenseman Dunks scoring four.

As for fellow senior Ignacio Fernandez (Cordoba, Argentina), it was a well-rounded final campaign as he led the team in assists with four and added two goals totaling eight points on the year, tying him for second most on the team.

In his first two seasons at the helm, head coach Michael Bonelli has led the Rattlers to two Heartland Conference Tournament appearances. The future remains bright for the program as they now look ahead to 2016.
