Rattlers postseason bound following shutout of DBU

DALLAS — The St. Mary's Rattlers clinched a second straight Heartland Conference Tournament berth Thursday afternoon after a 2-0 victory against the Dallas Baptist Patriots.
 
Needing a victory on the road to secure a spot in the postseason, the Rattlers came out aggressive, doubling the amount of shots (18-9) and shots on goal (6-3) of their opponents.
 
In the 28th minute, Ignacio Fernandez (Sr., Cordoba, Argentina) netted his second goal of the season, giving the Rattlers a lead they would not relinquish. The senior tacked on an assist to his stat line in the 51st minute, setting up Victor Luna (Sr., Sealy, Texas) for an added goal, Luna's sixth of the season.
 
Jack Moore (Jr., Lewsiham, London) recorded three saves for the Rattlers enroute to recording a second straight clean sheet while Patricio Botello Faz (Fr., Helotes, Texas) had three shots on offense.
 
After starting conference play losing three of their first four matches, the Rattlers have reeled off three victories in a row, out scoring their opponents 6-1. The win puts the Rattlers in the Heartland Conference Tournament with one more match remaining in the regular season. On Halloween Day, the Rattlers will visit No. 1 seed St. Edward's in a potential tournament preview.
