SAN ANTONIO — "I was hoping I would score," senior Karly Moe said following St. Mary's 6-1 victory over Oklahoma Christian on Senior Day at Sigma Beta Chi Field Saturday afternoon.

In the 11th minute, Moe (Sr., Wadsworth, Ill.) found the back of the net on a long distance strike from 35 yards. It was Moe's second career goal, with her first also against Oklahoma Christian in a meeting last season.

"There's a tradition whenever I score," Moe said, "since it's not very often, I got to do my little rattlers (celebration) to all my (teammates) on the bench."

The senior connection was in full effect as Brittney Lacek (Sr., Gillete, Wyo.) assisted on goals by fellow seniors Moe and Lauren Peck (Sr., San Antonio). Alyssa Taramona (Sr., Forney, Texas) recorded four saves, maintaining a clean sheet through the first 86 minutes of the match while Sam Lara (Sr., San Antonio) recorded two shots. In addition, on a day where the senior class was celebrated, Anna Stevens (Sr., San Antonio) made her first start of the season.

In addition to the performance of the seniors, sophomores Rachel Gurinsky (So., San Antonio), Roxy Cruz Santory (So., San Antonio) and Heather Dawson (So., Waco, Texas) made key contributions. Gurinsky scored two goals in a two-and-a-half minute stretch while Cruz Santory, whom assisted on the first of Gurinsky's goals, scored in the 42nd minute off an assist from Dawson who went on to score a goal of her own in the 71st minute.

Now 4-1 in conference play, St. Mary's sits second in the Heartland Conference standings as it gears towards the final stretch of the regular season.

"We just need to remember to keep playing simple," Moe said of the final four regular season matches.

Next for the Rattlers, they will welcome the Newman Jets to the Alamo City on Oct. 22 for yet another important Heartland Conference contest.
