Late goal propels Rogers State past Men's Soccer

By Chad Peters | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Men's Soccer couldn't overcome Rogers State's late go-ahead goal that defeated the Rattlers 1-0 at Sigma Beta Chi Field on Thursday night.

Hilllcats player Niall Masterson scored his fifth goal of the season in the 76th minute, providing the only offensive punch of the night before a crowd of 103.

St. Mary's was outshot 19-13, but certainly had its chances down the stretch. Jack Wolf, coming off the bench, fired a rocket from about 20 yards out that just settled into the keeper's hands to prevent a late equalizer.

With the victory, Rogers State improved to 8-4-1 overall and 3-2 in Heartland Conference play, while the Rattlers dropped to 5-7 with a 1-3 conference record.

Wolf led the Rattlers with three shot attempts, while Alex Gonzalez and Pato Botello recorded two apiece.

St. Mary's will return to action Saturday, when it hosts Oklahoma Christian on Senior Day. Action begins at noon at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
