Williams' late goal blows Dustdevils aside

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

LAREDO, Texas — With over five minutes left in regulation, St. Mary's and Texas A&M International were facing the prospect of extra time Sunday afternoon. That was until a free kick from 30 yards set the stage for a dramatic game winning goal from Kristal Williams, securing the Rattlers' second straight victory on the road.

From the onset, the Rattlers dominated control of the match, outshooting the Dustdevils 14-3. Yet, TAMIU managed to keep the contest scoreless entering the final minutes.

After drawing a foul, the Rattlers had one more opportunity. Katilyn Judge (So., Lubbock, Texas) sent a ball into the box to the waiting head of Kristal Williams (Jr., Ponder, Texas) who deposited her fourth goal of the season for the game winner. The assist brings Judge's team leading total to five, her fourth in two matches.

Once again, the goalkeeping tandem of Alyssa Taramona (Sr., Forney, Texas) and Caitlin McCarrell (So., Flower Mound, Texas) recorded a clean sheet while starters Brittney Lacek (Sr., Gillette, Wyo.), Lauren Peck (Sr., San Antonio) and Karly Moe (Sr., Wadsworth, Ill.) each contributed a shot on goal.

The Rattlers will return home for the next three matches, beginning with a conference clash with Rogers State on Oct. 15 at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
