By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

LUBBOCK, Texas — St. Mary's fell to Lubbock Christian, Thursday in the first conference match of the season by a final of 3-1.

Both teams were held scoreless through the first 47 minutes of play. By the 52nd minute, LCU built a two-goal advantage, capitalizing on set pieces.

A goal from the reigning Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Rachel Gurinsky (So., San Antonio) in the 69th minute, cut the Rattler deficit to one. The goal was Gurinsky's fifth of the season, which is tops on the team.

Less than three minutes later, Lubbock Christian ended any chance of a Rattler comeback with a free kick goal from 40 yards away.

Brittney Lacek (Sr., Gillette Wyo.) had a solid outing with 2 shot attempts, while Lauren Peck's (Sr., San Antonio) lone shot attempt was on frame.

The Rattlers will look to bounce back Saturday as they travel to Odessa, Texas to take on the Falcons of Texas-Permian Basin in a Heartland Conference battle.
