SLAM DUNK(S)! Aaron Dunks’ game-winning PK lifts Rattlers

LUBBOCK, Texas — With less than five minutes remaining in the first conference match of the season, victory was hanging in the balance as Aaron Dunks stepped up for what would become the game-winning goal against Lubbock Christian Thursday afternoon.
 
Dunks (Sr., Manchester, England), was in a similar situation six days ago at home versus Eastern New Mexico, with a PK and a chance to give the Rattlers the lead. The venue may have been different, but the result was the same as he deposited the ball into the back of the net, completing yet another comeback for St. Mary's. The goal brings Dunks' season total to four, which is best on the team despite the fact that he plays primarily on the backline.
 
St. Mary's trailed by a goal at the half as LCU, whom outshot the Rattlers 26-13, maintained its aggressive play.
 
In the 67th minute, an Alex Gonzalez (R-Jr., McAllen, Texas) free kick led to an equalizer off the head of Luis Sanchez (Fr., Houston, Texas) for the freshman's first career goal.
 
Mitchell Kilmer (R-So., Frisco, Texas) contributed five saves to the victory improving his record to 4-2 on the year.
 
The Rattlers will continue Heartland Conference play as they travel to Odessa, Texas for a date with Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday.
