SAN ANTONIO —St. Mary's Men's Basketball continued to build its momentum in Heartland Conference play after notching a 73-61 victory over the Dustdevils of Texas A&M International Thursday night.

Four Rattlers scored in double-digits including Marvin Binney (Sr., Toronto, Ontario) who led with 17 points followed by Justin Alexander (Sr., San Antonio) with 15, Kriston Minor (Jr., Huntsville, Texas) with 12 and Isaiah Matthews (R-Sr., Texas City, Texas) with 10 points.

The Rattlers also controlled the boards, outrebounding the Dustdevils 30-22 for the game.

Leading the way was Matthews, who pulled down six boards. Alexander, Minor, and JJ Bolton (Sr., Beaumont, Miss.) all chipped in five rebounds apiece.

The Dustdevils (8-9, 3-6 in Heartland Conference) jumped out to a quick four-point lead to start the game before the Rattlers bounced back and took control of the rest of regulation. The Rattlers held the lead for the majority of the game, leading by as much as 14 in the start of the second frame.

Once the Rattlers took the lead in the first half, the Dustdevils were only able to narrow the gap by four points, before the Rattlers extended their lead back to twelve in the final minutes of the first half.

After two free shots by TAMIU, the Rattlers went to halftime leading 33-23.

The Rattlers didn't lose any momentum coming back from the break, extending their lead to 14 just minutes into the half.

The Dustdevils wouldn't see the score any closer than five points with 12 minutes remaining as the Rattlers finished the game with a 73-61 victory.

The victory moves the Rattlers' record to 9-7 on the season and 6-3 in Heartland Conference play, where they are now tied for the No. 2 slot with Texas-Permian Basin, behind St. Edward's who holds the No. 1 slot in standings.

The Rattlers hope to continue their streak of statement wins Saturday afternoon as they take on Dallas Baptist at 3 p.m. in Bill Greehey Arena.

The Rattlers' #BattleforBear night proved to be a success with fans donating money for former Rattler volleyball player Mikayla Bass in an effort to raise funds to pay for her forthcoming operation after being diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. The evening raised nearly $700 for Bass, who hopes to return to the court for the Rattlers after fighting her disease. For more information on Bass' battle, visit www.BattleforBear.com.
