SAN ANTONIO — Emily Troell was swarmed as she checked the scoreboard after nailing a clutch jumper that put the Rattlers up two with six seconds remaining against the Heartland Conference's No. 1 team, Texas-Permian Basin.

St. Mary's Women's Basketball outhustled Texas-Permian Basin Thursday night in Bill Greehey Arena, claiming an intense, 72-68 victory that came down to the final seconds to keep the Rattlers undefeated at home.

"It was awesome," said Troell of her clutch shot with six seconds remaining that put the Rattlers up two, 70-68. "I mean I know we had to finish the game but it was good to know we were back on top."

Dezirae Elias (Jr., Chandler, Ariz.) dished it to Troell for the open look that helped seal the needed victory after two straight losses from StMU, sending the fourth Rattler into double digits for the night.

"It was a good team win," said Troell. "All around it was just a good team win. Everyone contributed tonight."

Despite playing just four minutes in the first half, Morgan Pullins (Sr., Franklin, Mich.) charged the Rattlers' victory, scoring 22 points in the second half alone to end the night with 28 points along with a powerful 17 rebounds.

Troell, Elias and Kiara Etheridge (So., San Antonio) all scored 10 points apiece in the tight win while Kyra Littlejohn (Sr., Southfield, Mich.) led with seven assists.

The Rattlers jumped out to a six-point lead over the Falcons (10-4, 4-2 in Heartland Conference) to start the game, all scored by Pullins, and went into the half up three, 34-31.

The Falcons threw up 22 three-pointers for the game, sinking seven, but the deep shooting wasn't enough to overcome the Rattlers who led for over 30 minutes of the game.

The Snakes gained the largest lead of the game at 10 with 10 minutes left to play, 55-45, but by 1:05, the Falcons tied it, 65-65.

Pullins brought the Rattlers up three with an and-one, 68-65, with 30 seconds left on the clock.

UTPB's response was the Falcon's three of the night from Keyondra White's third three with 15 ticks remaining to tie it, 68-68.

With seconds draining, Elias drove it up looking for the key play and found Troell to take the big shot, which she delivered to put the Rattlers back up two, 70-68, that hyped the Rattler bench and crowd.

Pullins added two free throws for final measure with one tick on the clock after drawing a foul, ending it 72-68.

The win improved the Rattlers to 10-5 on the season and 4-3 in conference play.

The Rattlers take on another strong competitor this week, facing rival St. Edward's at 1 p.m. Saturday inside Bill Greehey Arena.  After the Falcons' loss tonight, the Hilltoppers have taken hold of the No. 1 spot in the league with an 11-3 overall record and a 5-1 league record.

"(This win) definitely gives us good momentum into Saturday," said Troell. "We will need it (momentum) to play Saturday."

The "Battle of the Saints" matchup is also Rattler Basketball's annual Operation Drive to the Basket, which supports all active military and veterans.
