Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rattlers pour it in on 6-0 rout of Huston-Tillotson

By Chad Peters | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Women's Soccer made quick work of Huston-Tillotson on Sunday, using three first-half goals and three more in the second to rout the Rams 6-0 at Sigma Beta Chi Field.

Senior forward Kaitie Kasperitis led the way with two goals, giving her four for the week and seven on the season. In the process, the Corpus Christi, Texas native moved three goals away from matching Kyle Hyslop's program record of 34.

Kasperitis has nine regular-season games left, plus potential postseason matches, to tie or break the mark.

Also scoring on the day were Kristal Williams, Roxy Cruz Santory, Lynsie Shaw and Sam Lara.

With the victory over Huston-Tillotson (2-4-2), St. Mary's pulled to .500 on the season with a 4-4 record. It marked the Rattlers' second shutout win of the season.

The Rattlers dominated everything about the game, from possession, to shots to the scoreboard. They outshot the Rams 23-8 and needed just five saves in the net to blank HTU.

Alyssa Taramona got the start in the goal for St. Mary's and recorded nearly 60 clean minutes, before being relieved by reserve Mariah Escajeda, who pitched over 30 minutes of scoreless goalkeeping.

Nothing spoke of the Rattlers' afternoon quite like Lara's goal in the 88th minute, as the junior kicked into a wide-open net after goalie Amber Hernandez overcommitted nearly 20 yards out.

Kasperitis had a similar goal in the 19th minute, as she took a turnover in midfield and converted it into an easy goal after the goalie overcommitted. That provided St. Mary's an early 2-0 lead, which swelled to 3-0 before the break as Roxy Cruz Santory took an assist from Lauren Peck and punched in a goal for her second on the season.

Kyla Simek and Brittney Lacek also had assists on the day.

The Rattlers will return to action Saturday, when they travel to Soldier Field to take on Rogers State at 5 p.m. in Claremore, Okla.
