Box Score SAN ANTONIO — Nearly 1,000 fans attended Wednesday's "Gold Rush" night, a festival honoring and kicking off the fall portion of the St. Mary's Athletics calendar during the Rattlers' volleyball contest against cross-town school Our Lady of the Lake. The squads put on a show for the crowd of 813, as the Saints outlasted StMU 3-2 in a thrilling, five-set match at Bill Greehey Arena.
OLLU (1-1) won 21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 12-25, 15-10, as St. Mary's (1-3) suffered a close, five-set defeat for the third time.
Jenna Paul led St. Mary's with 11 kills, while
Kelsey Huber and
Lauren Holman added 10 apiece.
Tori Estrada led the squad with 32 digs.
St. Mary's took early control with a 25-21 victory in the first set, but dropped the next two by a combined eight points. The Rattlers stormed back, however, to rout the Saints 25-12 in the fourth, only to fall in the decisive fifth set.
Seeking to improve to 2-1 in Heartland Conference play, St. Mary's will travel to Austin, Texas on Saturday for a 12 p.m. "Battle of the Saints" showdown against rival St. Edward's.
