No. 19 Rattlers split week, remain undefeated in conference play

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Women's split its competition last week, picking up another Heartland Conference win and clashing to fall with No. 18 Midwestern State.
 
The No. 19 Rattlers started their weekend off with a sweep over Newman Friday to remain undefeated in league play at 4-0. The 9-0 victory was the Rattlers' sixth sweep on the season and third over a conference opponent.
 
The nationally ranked Rattlers nearly took one off of No. 18 MSU, falling 5-4 Saturday.
 
With the split, the Rattlers improved to 10-4 on the season and 4-0 in conference play to remain the top team in the league.
 
Against Midwestern State, the Rattlers competed well with Felicity Delgado (Jr., Universal City, Texas) dropping in three sets as the Rattlers' No. 2, 4-6, 6-3 and 6-0.
 
The Rattlers picked up two points out of a possible three in doubles and was awarded points in singles from Mariana Rong and Jamie Lee Denton.
 
Both Rong (Jr., Jinan, China) and Denton (So., San Angelo, Texas) went undefeated in singles and doubles play for the week at 4-0 with Rong playing as the No. 1 in singles and doubles and Denton No. 4 in singles and No. 2 in doubles. 
 
Currently, Rong is No. 1 in the region in singles play while Cristina Lopez (So., San Antonio) is No. 7 and Delgado is No. 15
 
The Rattlers take on Cameron in their next match Friday in Dallas at time to be determined.
