STEPHENVILLE, Texas — St. Mary's Women's Basketball began the 2014-15 campaign with a bang, defeating Angelo State, 74-60, in the Tarleton Classic on Friday afternoon.

Led by Kiara Ethridge (So., San Antonio) and Dezirae Elias (Jr., Chandler, Ariz.), the Rattlers enjoyed a wire-to-wire victory as they outplayed the Rambelles from the opening tip.

Etheridge notched her second career double-double, scoring a team-high 22 points and 11 boards, while Elias filled the stat sheet with 18 points, eight assists, five boards and three steals.

Kyra Littlejohn (Sr., Southfield, Mich.) added nine points on 2-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc, playing a big roll for a Rattler (1-0) squad that made 9 of 16 attempts from 3-point range. Returning All-Heartland Conference forward Morgan Pullins (Sr., Franklin, Mich.) scored seven points and seven boards after a scoreless first half, while newcomer Kealani Marquez (Fr., San Antonio) also scored seven in her first start as a Rattler.

Newcomer Sierra LaGrande (Fr., Southfield, Mich.) led the St. Mary's bench with six points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers in nine minutes.

St. Mary's opened up a big 39-22 halftime lead thanks to a defensive effort that held the Rambelles to just 17 shots. The Rattlers, by contrast, had 16 makes in 36 attempts at the break. St. Mary's shot 50.8 percent for the game, making 30 of 59 attempts.
