Volleyball beats the Falcons in four in tight matchup

ODESSA, Texas — St. Mary's Volleyball was able to snatch a four-set victory over Texas-Permian Basin Thursday night, coming out of a close match on top.
 
St. Mary's took the first set 25-22 to fall to a Falcon surge in the second set, 25-19. The Rattlers then took a heated set three, 27-25, before closing it out with a set four victory, 25-21.
 
With the win, the Rattlers bump back up over .500 with an 8-7 overall record and a 5-4 Heartland Conference record.
 
Power duo Melissa Heft (Sr., San Antonio) and Kelsey Huber (Sr., San Antonio) led the Rattlers with 11 and 10 kills respectively followed by Devan Hartung (Sr., Hondo, Texas) and MacKenzie Wright (Fr., Houston) with eight kills apiece.
 
Laruen Holman (Jr., Rowlett, Texas) took her usual stance as blocks leader, totaling four block assists and one block solo while Victorria Martinez (Sr., Arlington, Texas) led in digs with 23.
 
Kayln Guthrie (Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas) led in assists with 26.
 
As a team, the Rattlers put up a .226 hitting percentage and seven total blocks which helped stave off the Falcons in the close matchup that saw 20 tied scores and eight lead changes.
 
With the win over the Falcons (6-10, 3-6 in conference), the Rattlers remain in a tie for fourth place in league standings.
 
The Rattlers take on Lubbock Christian at Noon Saturday in Lubbock, Texas at the Rip Griffin Center in their next matchup.
