Volleyball sweeps Newman in crucial win

WICHITA, Kan. — St. Mary's Volleyball took a crucial sweep over Newman Thursday night, winning 3-0 to secure a No. 4 spot in league standings among eligible schools in a tight race for the Heartland Conference postseason tournament.
 
The Rattlers won 25-19, 25-21 and 27-25 over the Jets in a much-needed win with just three regular-season games remaining.
 
The Rattlers improve to 9-12 overall and 6-7 in conference play with the win while the Jets dropped to 12-12 overall and 7-7 in conference play.
 
StMU posted an impressive .254 hitting percentage which helped its cause in the victory as well as 10 block assists.
 
Kelsey Huber (Sr., San Antonio) led the match in kills with 11 while Victorria Martinez (Sr., Arlington, Texas) posted a match-high 24 digs.
 
Rachael Scicchitano (So., McKinney, Texas) had a team-high 23 assists and Lauren Slaughter (So., San Antonio) led with four block assists.
 
The Rattlers continue on the road to face Oklahoma Panhandle State at Noon Saturday in Goodwell, Okla.
