Volleyball drops tough loss to TAMIU in five sets

LAREDO, Texas — St. Mary's Volleyball was unable to hold off Texas A&M International in a heated matchup up Saturday, falling in five sets, 3-2.
 
The Dustdevils were able to match every set lead by the StMU with Rattlers winning set one 25-21 and falling in set two 26-24. The Rattlers charted a powerful, 25-14 set three-win but the Dustdevils took the final two sets, 25-19 and 16-14.
 
The squads posted identical hitting percentages at .190 as well as seven total blocks for each.
 
Kelsey Huber (Sr., San Antonio) had a strong performance against the Heartland Conference foe, leading the Rattlers with 17 kills, picking up 25 digs and recording a team-high three service aces.
 
Lauren Slaughter (So., San Antonio) set a career-high 15 kills against the Dustdevils in just her second career match with double digit kills, hitting an impressive .433 percent.
 
Victorria Martinez (Sr., Arlington, Texas) led with 29 digs and Rachael Scicchitano (So., McKinney, Texas) led with 36 assists.
 
The Rattlers drop to 8-12 overall and 5-7 in Heartland Conference play with the five-set loss while the Dustdevils improved to 4-16 overall and 2-10 in league play.
 
The Rattlers continue their conference road trip at 7 p.m. Thursday against Newman in Wichita, Kan.
