Men's Soccer trumps Eagles on Senior Night

By Robin Johnson | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's  Men's Soccer was able to shake off an upsetting loss to Lubbock Christian suffered earlier this week by dominating Oklahoma Christian Saturday night, winning 3-0 on Senior Night.

Jack Wolf (Jr., Richardson, Texas) started things off quickly for the Rattlers, scoring his sixth goal on the season in the ninth minute, dumping in a close range shot off a rebound that would be his third game-winner on the season.

The Rattlers' second goal on the game came from Vinny Guerrero (RS-Fr., San Antonio) who scored his first goal as a Rattler on an assist from Alex Gonzalez (RS-So., McAllen, Texas) to give StMU a 2-0 lead in the 23rd minute.

The Rattlers were then quieted until the 82nd minute when Kiernan Akers (Fr., Converse, Texas) drove in the victory with his first collegiate goal with a cross in the box from Daniel Sanchez (Fr., Georgetown, Texas).

StMU outshot the Eagles (2-6-1, 1-2 in conference) 21-15 for the match with 13 shots on goal. The Rattlers restricted the Eagles in the second frame to five shots to their 12.

Seniors honored before the game were defenders Josh Stevens (RS-Sr., San Antonio) and Uros Ceglaj (RS-Sr., Ljubljana, Slovenia) who both helped the Rattlers claim their fourth shutout on the season which included three team saves.

Keeper Mitchell Kilmer (RS-Fr., Frisco, Texas) made some impressive stops throughout the game, recording four saves to improve his record to 6-5-2 on the season in his fourth shutout.

With the win, the Rattlers improve to 6-5-2 on the season with a 3-2 Heartland Conference record, which has them currently No. 3 in league standings.

The Rattlers play their final home game of the season at 2:30 p.m. Monday against Dallas Baptist at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
