Volleyball drops contest to Tarleton State, 3-0

By Robin Johnson | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Women's Volleyball suffered a tough cross-conference loss to Lone Star contender Tarleton State Tuesday night, 3-0, battling strong in the final two sets.

The TexAnns took set one 25-13 and saw a Rattler surge in the second set that nearly had them take a lead midway through the game, but the TexAnns pulled through to win it, 25-21. TSU went on to win the third set, 25-22, despite an early Rattler lead and a tight game throughout.

The Rattlers' hitting percentage and the TexAnn's girth in attacking held the Rattlers back as TSU put up 40 kills for the match with a .229 hitting percentage and 10 total blocks.

Leaders for the Rattlers included Tarine Grace (Fr., San Antonio) in kills with eight, Victorria Martinez (Sr., Arlington, Texas) in digs with 13 and Rachael Scicchitano (So., McKinney, Texas) in assists with 17.

The Rattlers' non-conference loss to the TexAnns drops them to 8-9 on the season while the TexAnns improved to 15-5.

The Rattlers have a quick turnaround as they play rival St. Edward's at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bill Greehey Arena in their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Match. Fans wearing pink into the match will be selected to win prizes during the match.
