Volleyball sees Heartland winning streak snapped by Newman

Lauren Holman had a big day in the loss to Newman.
Box Score WICHITA, Kan. — St. Mary's Volleyball saw its three-match winning streak within Heartland Conference play come to an end Saturday, as Newman swept the Rattlers 3-0 at the Fugate Gymnasium.
 
Though Newman (7-6, 4-4) swept the match, St. Mary's (7-8, 4-2) lost the three sets by a combined six points.
 
Going back-and-forth, the Rattlers and Jets engaged in a pair of extended sets, with Newman winning 31-29, 25-23, 28-26.
 
Lauren Holman (So., Rowlett, Texas) was phenomenal throughout, recording 11 kills with a .647 hitting percentage to go along with four total blocks. Victorria Martinez (Jr., Arlington, Texas) led the team with 19 digs, while Rachael Schicchitano (Fr., McKinney, Texas) had a team-high 18 assists.
 
Kelsey Huber (Jr., San Antonio) added seven kills for St. Mary's, which was outhit .176-.161 in the match.
 
With the loss, St. Mary's drops to third place in the Heartland Conference. The Rattlers will be back in action Tuesday against Texas-Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas.
