GOODWELL, Okla. — St. Mary's Volleyball is starting to carve its place in the Heartland Conference.
The Rattlers swept Oklahoma Panhandle State Thursday, tying the No. 5 spot for the program's three-set match fewest points allowed record after winning 25-15, 25-9 and 25-13.
With the win, the Rattlers reached .500 at 7-7 but more importantly, improved to 4-1 in conference play. St. Mary's is only under Arkansas-Fort Smith in conference standings as it holds the No. 1 spot with an undefeated 6-0 league record.
The Rattlers were efficient against OPSU, recording a .314 hitting percentage for the match. Heavy kills were not needed for this Rattlers' victory as the Aggies' service errors plagued them with 12 over the three sets to record a -.085 hitting percentage.
Laruen Holman (So., Rowlett, Texas) led the Rattlers in both kills and block assists, recording five each, as well as one block solo.
Karlie Ortega (Sr., San Antonio) and
Melissa Heft (Jr., San Antonio) had four kills apiece.
Rachael Scicchitano (Fr., McKinney) had a team-high 10 assists followed by
Mikayla Bass (So., Coppell, Texas) with six while
Tori Estrada (So., San Antonio) led with six digs.
The Rattlers will play the second game of their three-game road trip against Newman at noon Saturday in Wichita, Kan.
