Marlon Furlongue joined the St. Mary’s University staff in July 2019 and currently serves as the Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations and Compliance.

In his position, Furlongue is responsible for multiple compliance-related tasks, including assisting with the academic eligibility certification process, issuing rules interpretations, compiling waiver applications, completing various NCAA reporting requirements and monitoring both the athletics department and University to ensure compliance with all NCAA and Lone Star Conference rules and regulations.

Furlongue also oversees all aspects of student-athlete academics and life skills and is the co-advisor of the department’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  His coordination of academic support has resulted in a department GPA above 3.3 each semester and for the program to win the prestigious Lone Star Conference Balfour Academic Excellence Award at least once for either the men or women, three of the last four years.  Over the past four years, teams that have captured the conferences individual sport academic champions award have included: Baseball, Volleyball, Women's Golf (twice), Men's Tennis and Women's Tennis.

With the student-athlete experience always at the forefront, Furlongue works with local organizations and campus partners to implement life skills programming for the student-athletes, including a five-part financial literacy series for student-athletes and an annual Life After Sports program co-sponsored with the StMU Career and Professional Development Center where athletics alumni return to StMU to engage with student-athletes on how to navigate the job market once they graduate.

Furlongue’s work with SAAC has resulted in an increase in community engagement hours and fundraised money for local charities. Under his leadership, SAAC facilitates community engagement with local theme park Morgan’s Wonderland, SAISD Foundation, St. Stephens Care Center and the San Antonio Food Bank. Most recently, Furlongue worked with SAAC to facilitate a canned food drive for the StMU’s Rattler Pantry, a new on-campus food pantry to help address food insecurity for StMU’s students. He also spearheads an annual Christmas toy drive for Adoption Priorities, Inc. a local charitable adoption awareness agency. Through their fundraisers, SAAC has donated money to the local Special Olympics chapter and the Clarity Child Guidance Center.

On-campus, Furlongue serves as the athletics department liaison for both academic and student support-based services while also serving on several campus committees including the Financial Aid Appeal Committee and the CARE (Coordination, Assessment, Response, and Education) Team. He also leads the campus’ APPLE Team, which provides programming on substance misuse prevention and the promotion of health and wellness to student-athletes. Furlongue also serves as StMU’s Athletics Diversity and Inclusion designee and is the sport administrator for the men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf and the STUNT teams.

Along with on-campus committee work, Furlongue is active within the NCAA, serving on the NCAA Division II Committee on Legislative Relief, the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Region VI Selection Committee and the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar Participants Selection Committee.

Prior to arriving at StMU, Furlongue spent six years at Nova Southeastern University (2013-19), the last two as Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Rules Education. While there he assisted with NCAA eligibility certification and monitored NCAA equivalencies and team scholarship budgets. He also administered the college’s rules compliance program and conducted rules education meetings with coaches and student-athletes. Furlongue first gained experience in NCAA committee service while at NSU, serving as the South Region Chair on the NCAA Division II Rowing Committee, where he was selected chair of the national committee in 17-18 and 18-19.

Prior to NSU, Furlongue served as the Sports Information Director/Compliance Coordinator at Bluefield State College from 2011-13. While at Bluefield State, Furlongue’ s responsibilities included oversight of all NCAA rules education and monitoring along with game-day event management duties and the promotion of 10 NCAA Division II teams.

A 2003 graduate of St. Leo University, Furlongue earned a Bachelor’s in Sport Management and a Masters in Sport Management from the United States Sports Academy in 2006. While attending the U.S. Sports Academy, Furlongue earned a position as a NACDA Intern in 2005-06 where he assisted in planning and managing the 41st NACDA Convention in New Orleans, La., the first convention in New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. 

Furlongue, currently resides in Converse with his wife Jaime and their two daughters Mckenzie and Mckenna.
