Maria Regina Gonzalez begins her third season of coaching in 2021-22 after having one of the most decorated careers in St. Mary's golf history. 

Gonzalez helped the women's golf team win the 2020-21 NCAA Women's West Regional, upsetting top-ranked DBU by nine strokes, coaching them to a high ranking of 6th in the final poll. The women also finished sixth at the NCAA Division II Championship and advanced to the semifinals of Match Play at the Championships.

Gonzalez was a member of the team she now coaches from 2015-19. She holds the two lowest rounds in school history, shooting a 65 at the DBU Women's Classic in 2018 and shot a 66 as a freshman at the West Texas A&M Invite in 2015. Her single season scoring average of 73.44 from 2018-19 is the lowest in school history and her career stroke average of 74.71 is also the top mark. She carded 26 par or better rounds during her career and won five individual titles throughout her time on the links.
