Katelin Oney enters her first year as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach for St. Mary’s University, coming with strong coaching experience.
 
At St. Mary’s, Oney’s primary roles will include recruiting and assisting with player development, among others.
 
As the Graduate Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Wayne State College for two seasons, Oney helped oversee the Wildcats become nationally ranked and reach championship success. There, her primary roles included recruiting, assisting with guard fundamentals and assessing game film, among others.
 
In her first year as a Graduate Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach, the Wildcats posted an impressive 28-5 overall record as the No. 16-ranked team in the nation, becoming the NISC regular-season conference championships and claiming a NCAA Division II tournament win.
 
In her second year, Wayne State again found success as the No. 18-ranked team in the nation as it claimed its second straight NISC regular-season conference championship. The Wildcats became the NSIC Conference Tournament runner-up, going on to claim a win in the NCAA tournament to end the season with a 28-6 overall record.
 
A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Oney found her own pristine success as a collegiate student-athlete herself.
 
Oney played four seasons at the Division I University of Northern Iowa where she led the Panthers to historic success.
 
As a sophomore, Oney led the Panthers to the first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship in school history and advanced to the NCAA Division I Tournament.
 
She did it again as a junior, becoming back-to-back MVC Conference Tournament champions and making a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. That same season, Oney and the Panthers also claimed the MVC regular-season title for the first time in school history.
 
As a team captain her senior season, Oney went on to receive an All-Tournament Team selection.
 
In her tenure, Oney was a sharp shooter, charting the program’s fifth-most three-pointers made and becoming ninth in the program in three-point field-goal percentage.
 
Oney graduated from George Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, going on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in literacy in 2013. She then received her master’s degree in educational-instructional curriculum leadership with an emphasis in elementary education in 2015 from Wayne State College.
