A member of the St. Mary's Athletics Hall of Fame, Fields is the only Rattler in school history with a national championship as a player (1986) and coach (2002). On December 10, 2021, Fields was also inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Hall of Fame. She won her 1,000th game on March 25, 2022, and is 1,044-481 in 25 years.

Fields has served as both the Senior Woman Administrator and the Head Softball Coach at StMU since 2003. She began coaching in 1998 after spending 10 seasons away from St. Mary’s as a high school volleyball and softball coach. She was on the NCAA Management Council and the Committee on Women’s Athletics from 2004-2009 and served on the South Central Regional Advisory Committee from 2002-2005 and 2012-2016. Fields also recently wrapped up service on the Softball National RAC in 2022. She is also extremely active in the NFCA and has served on several committees.

She was a 12-time Heartland Conference Softball Coach of the Year (league disbanded after 2019) and has led her team to 18 conference championships in 25 seasons. She led the Rattlers to the 2002 NCAA Division II national championship and the NCAA South Central Region championships in 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2015. She has 17 appearances in the NCAA Regionals, three in the NCAA Super Regionals and four in the College World Series.Â

Fields also spent three seasons on the sidelines as an assistant volleyball coach for the Rattlers, helping the team go 80-26, advance to the NAIA Tournament in 1998 and win the Heartland Conference Tournament in the team’s first full year in the NCAA.

Fields was a three-sport athlete for the Rattlers, playing softball, women’s basketball and volleyball. She was named NAIA All-American in softball as a left fielder her senior year and played on the Rattlers' 1986 softball national championship team. Fields was named to the All-Big State Conference and NAIA All-District volleyball teams and was voted NAIA District Freshman of the Year in basketball.Â

She was inducted into the Oliver Wendell Holmes High School Hall of Fame in 1999. In December of 2001, Coach Fields completed her master’s degree as a Distinguished Graduate in education at St. Mary's.

Fields and husband, Andy, have raised three children and welcomed their first grandchild in 2023. She embodies the Marianist traditions of St. Mary’s.
